"A century ago, the colonies of Asia were inhabited by people with limited literacy, magical thinking, and backward ways. Today, the descendants of those people are highly literate, increasingly rational, and far more sophisticated than many Australians."

No one ever mentions the many benefits of colonialism! Your statement is a prime example of the benefits. As far as I am concerned, Aboriginals should be thanking the British for settling Australia as the benefits have been extraordinary. No more cannibalism, no more infanticide, no more constant warfare, no more struggling daily to find food etc. (the list is almost endless, but the things mentioned will suffice).

Many years ago, there was a book called "English as she is Spoke." I'm wondering if that is the standard for a bachelor of journalism now. Maybe the unwanted influx of migrants from Asia will lift the terrible standard of English in this country.
